About the Author
Laura Dallas Burford, PMP, has more than 25 years of domestic and international project management experience working with organizations of various sizes, industries, and organizational structures. She has extensive experience with the big four consulting firms and is currently the owner and president of LAD Enterprizes. Ms. Burford has provided consulting services and worked directly for several Top 100 corporations. During this time, she provided leadership for numerous large IT and business improvement programs, project outsourcing, start-up initiatives, and project turnarounds. She has also assisted organizations with developing their own project management approach and methodology.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Science in Commerce (BSC) and a Masters of Arts (MA) in Education from Rider University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). In addition to conducting numerous seminars and speaking engagements, Laura has authored, facilitated, and taught several project management training programs, including a Project Management Nonprofit Practicum for the Nonprofit Resource Network at Millersville University. As a practitioner, she focuses on coaching and advising flat organizations concerned with projects aligning strategy, processes, and information technology.

Easy read, good reference - a good book for a PM on a budget!

Whether you are a seasoned project manager or someone just thrust into that role, Project Management for Flat Organizations is a great book to have by your side. I read it cover-to-cover and, although I have 20+ years of related experience, I still found several ideas to improve how I manage a project. Featuring short 10-page (or so) chapters, ample examples, a glossary, per-chapter summaries (called "In Review") and "Step-by-Step Instructions" for key chapters, you can easily refer back to important material in the heat of battle and not be hunting for what you need. The author's style is conversational, so it's just like you are chatting and being mentored by Laura every step of the way! A must have for any PM, but absolutely the first book to read for anyone with tight budgets or schedules but few resources.

Project management for flat organizations is the most comprehensive, easy to read & digest, & completely engaging educational book I have ever read. I will use this book often, as a great reference tool as well. Each chapter is concise, with colorful stories and examples that really sink in and are retained. Anyone managing any size project will benefit from having this book in their tool kit. I used several tricks and tips again this week, while trying to manage a difficult stakeholder - we all have those people in our lives - and I got my project back on track. Thank you Laura! Ellen M. Practical yet detailed

As a non-profit manager our grass-roots volunteer organization can take a lot of shortcuts in planning. The book starts with the premise that each organizations culture plays a role in what works. We have over 2800 volunteers and 20 staff, so I can assure you our culture is not very welcoming to a "by-the-book" project style. The book's point is to use what works and not get hung up on a particular formal process. All the right techiques are there, with good practical examples that have helped me plan projects that gain volunteer support. This project management book has a Yogi Berra quote leading its introduction and is willing to look at the big picture. A good reference piece that I'll keep in my library.
