During these investigations, Wyoming, which once was considered to be relatively poor in gemstones, soon became known as having the most diversified assemblage of gemstones of any state in the United States. The author discovered dozens of new mineral, gemstone and rock localities, more than a hundred gold anomalies and mapped the largest diamondiferous kimberlite fields in the US and the largest field of lamproites in North America. About the Author
It is extremely rare for a person to find a world-class mineral deposit, after all, only a few such deposits are found each decade. W. Dan Hausel (geologist, prospector, and author) discovered more than one world-class mineral deposit, a few major gold, diamond and gemstone deposits and made more than a hundred other significant mineral discoveries. Professor Hausel was a member of a 7-man discovery team of the Donlin Creek gold deposit in Alaska in 1988. This deposit hosts at least 40 million ounces: essentially an equivalent amount of gold that has been mined in all of Alaska since gold was discovered in 1848. He also discovered the Rattlesnake Hills gold district in Wyoming: a district that is currently being explored for both Kalgoorlie- and Cripple Creek-type gold deposits. He found the Palmer Canyon, Grizzly Creek and the Sherman Mountains colored gemstone deposits. Two of which are likely world class gem deposits with giant iolite gemstones. Hausel, sees things others overlook. Where others walked & saw nothing, he found gold, platinum, palladium, opal, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, iolite, peridot, agate, jasper & some of the largest gemstones on earth and some of the larger gold deposits in North America. Spending summers alone in wilderness, he mapped >1000 km2 of complex geologic terrain, historic mines, rare volcanic rocks with diamonds & other gems & wrote about these in more than 700 papers, maps and books as a research geologist for Wyoming and as a private consultant for several international gold, base metal, gemstone and diamond mining companies. He was presented more than a hundred regional, national and international awards for his work including President's Award by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Prospector's Best Friend Award by the Rocky Mountain Prospectors, the Distinguished Service Award by the Wyoming Geological Association, the Archimedes Award of Geological Sciences by the International Biographical Institute and the Thayer Lindsley Award for a Major International Gold Discovery by the Prospectors & Developers in Canada. Elected to the National Rock Hound & Lapidary Hall of Fame & Millennium Hall of Fame for contributions to the geological sciences. His achievements highlight dozens of Who’s Who compendiums: Who's Who in Science & Engineering, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, 2000 Outstanding Scientists of the 20th Century & others.

Good geology, annoying political gripes

Dan Hausel is a phenominal geologist. Quite possibly the most prolific in history, to be quite honest... But he has a problem, no one likes him. Dan seems to be such an abrasive person that anyone with an inch of power in Wyoming does whatever they can to destroy him. The man is super-Republican and in the most-Republican state in the union and even the Republicans try to destroy his discoveries. This is a state that has no problem letting anyone do "fraking" to obtain natural gas and foul their ground water. They love carving up the high plains in pursuit of rich coal. When it comes to hard-rock mining for gold, copper, platinum, gemstones, or anything else Dan has discovered Wyoming says, "No!"

Why is this? Dan claims it is because Wyoming is full of idiots (and he lets us know this often in his reference guide). Could it actually be because he is just a jerk? Sure, he is the most accomplished geologist of our time and has pointed out that Wyoming has tens of trillions of dollars in valuable minerals that could pay off the national debt, but no one of importance seems to actually to give a damn. This is because Dan is so disliked that people would rather see him suffer in obscurity than see the entire nation prosper. That has got to give somebody like Dan Hausel quite the inferiority complex.

I would love to meet him someday and just see what he is like in person. I love the rich and prolific information that just flows out of his mind. His geological accumane is rediculous. He knows more about the lithic stucture of the Earth than any professor I ever had during my undergraduate or graduate studies. Dan gets the job done when it comes to informing the world through this book, and his other works, on where and how to find and identify rocks and minerals. I just wish he wouldn't bitch and insult so much. I usually finnish reading one of his works or blog posts (he has dozens of sites on blogspot as "gemhunter") and feel both informed and insulted/pissed-off.

Enjoy the information this book and Hausel's other works provide; just take the complaining about how mean everyone on planet Earth is to him with a grain of salt.

Buy it, you will like it.

If you are into rocks & minerals of Wyoming, this book gives you a 30 year short cut. The author has combined his expertise, experience and passion for geology into a no-nonsense, x marks the spot, book. I recently took several trips to Wyoming from my home state of Montana and found the Sweetwater agates and white opals in the location given in the book. I am looking forward to my next adventure to Wyoming.

The geologist's geologist

Dan puts in more information than the casual reader might be able to assimilate. However I believe the book is useful and interesting to all readers. He literally tells you where to go (you may have to climb a mountain) to find gemstones and his history (and I have followed him on his free blog and on CanadianRockhounder) bears out his personal success at this.

Disappointment int he Details

I was delighted to learn that Dessler had a new HR management book available August 1999 for an MBA class I was teaching beginning in September 1999. Before selecting the book I reviewed an earlier edition and was pleased with the organization, topics, and simple style. I selected the newest edition without seeing it. Imagine my shock and embarrassment when I started reading it after assigning chapters to my students. I found a few typos in the beginning and laughingly told my students I would give them bonus points for any they found. I thought it would encourage them to read carefully. I had to discontinue the practice after about probably the first dozen were in the first couple chapters. One class we concentrated on writing a resume. The example of a "good" resume that Dessler provided was terrible. Not only was it confusing, it was from the 1980s. I am sorry that my students had to pay $. I am teaching the class again in February so will need to find another book. Mr. Dessler, I hope you encourage those in HR to be more careful in the details of their work than you were in your book.

Dessler Knows the Field

Dessler's approach in Human Resource Management is thorough, comprehensive, contemporary, and very readable. The figures, tables, and other visuals are excellent for models and practical use. The cases and application exercises are relevant to the real world and greatly assist in the overall understanding of the main concepts of each chapter. Chapters on employee testing and selection, appraising performance, job analysis, and personnnel planning and recruiting, are particularly well presented. The complexities of establishing pay plans and financial incentives are explained in simple terms for the reader and include revelant examples. The text also comes with supplementary materials which greatly enhance it's use and application. This book can be used for lower as well as upper division courses at the University or College level.

Best In Breed

This book's content and support is, unquestionably, the best available today. I've used it to support teaching HR Management to graduate students and have been pleased to see how much my students derive from it.

HOWEVER...

Very recently, some of the "free" support my students were able to use has been converted to "a la carte," pay as you go services.

This was a huge disappointment to me and my students, who had to pay an outrageous $130 for a textbook.

I used to feel justified supporting that price because of the auxiliary content with which it was bundled. But not any more. I would urge Dr. Dessler and his team to restore the "extras" that added so much value to the work.

That carping done, he and his group have done a first-rate job on this one, and I'm eargerly looking forward to the new effort.

Excellent overview of ICF physics.

This book provides an excellent description of the necessary physics of inertial fusion. However, it is not for beginers. A solid understanding of hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, andstatistical mechanics is required in order to understand several chapters. The necessary nuclear physics is described in the first chapter. The book has many excellent plots. Advanced topics such as fast ignition are also covered. The book is a valuable resource for experimentalists and computational scientists working in this field.

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because no description is given of the simulation codes used to generate results in the book. The authors' journal articles have that information and so you will need to look them up.

This is a great book, and the author clearly describes the basics and more advanced topics of inertial fusion. The book is filled with formulas which one can use to construct own models of inertial confinement fusion.

This is an excellent introduction to the physics of ICF and is surprisingly enjoyable to read for a rather dense subject. Much of the focus is on 1-d models in which the authors have done their own work, but they go to some trouble to elucidate the physics and examine some of the analytical results obtainable from the fluid equations. I found their treatment of the various approaches to solving the fluid equations particularly enlightening. It's worth noting that the book is very well typeset and the Kindle version looks just as good as the print version, but you will need a tablet to display it properly. My only niggle is that some of the sections could be re-ordered to improve the flow, but otherwise no reason not to give this book 5 stars.

Gross was faced with a tough task when asked to edit this volume: how to cram the history of a form that is so flexible, and so widely used, into a compact volume? Essays have been selected from the seventeenth century on, and Gross has included writers from the USA as well as Britain. Almost his only concession has been the exclusion of any writer born after WW2. Plagued by so much choice, he has done a great job. Of course, there are omissions. Several writers from 'The New Yorker' have their say, but there was no room for its two best essayists, A. J. Liebling and Joseph Mitchell. And the abscence of Kenneth Tynan is lamentable: his essay on the folly of the Lord Chamberlin, the Censor of Pays in Britain, is far better than that of Joseph Conrad, a brilliant novelist but an undistiunguished essayist, which is included here. But everyone will find a few favourites missing in any book of this kind. In fact, Gross has sometimes tried to be too representative, to include too many discrete essays, with the result that he seems to have plumped for very short pieces. Perhaps half a dozen writers seem to have been included simply because they are or were great writers, and not because they wrote great essays. Others are represented by inferior pieces, largely for reasons of space -- space often taken up by lesser writers. E.B. White, for instance, gets just over two pages for a pretty run-of-the-mill essay, where he would be better served by 'Death of a Pig' or 'Farewell, my lovely!', both of which are far better than, say, anything by Joseph Epstein. And John Updike's 'The Bankrupt Man' hardly gives an idea of what he's capable of. But these are minor quibbles. Anyone who enjoys reading essays will find countless hours of enjoyment in this book: essays by Samuel Johnson, Walter Bagehot, G. K. Chesterton, Max Beerbohm, John Jay Chapman, and many others, are classics that repay many re-readings.

Fun read

I loved catching up with the characters from the original Royals of Monterra stories. Ms. Connolly definitely remained true to the characters, their voice, and personalities. As someone who enjoyed following the births of the royal babies in England, it was fun to read about what that might have been like for them "behind the scenes".

While I did enjoy the book, I couldn't quite give it 5 stars. There were some grammar errors, and while there were main section breaks (dividing up the trimesters---chapter five's title "The Seventh Trimester" really cracked me up), there weren't any natural dividers within chapters indicating a change of location, which was kind of hard to track at times. My one other issue was with Kat's constant pregnancy complaints. Hey, I have four kids. I know how that goes---particularly that last month. And while I appreciate the author's intent to keep things as realistic as possible, it is a fiction story. Some of that was a bit repetitive and could've been left out. Just my opinion, mind. There may be others who disagree.

I've enjoyed the author's other novels and look forward to reading more.

A charming extended epilogue to Royal Date

I was a little weary of a sequel coming from a different author but this was still a very fun, enjoyable read. I fell in love with the characters from Sariah Wilson's "Royal Date" that I just wanted more of their story. Royal Delivery really functions as an extended epilogue and focuses on the fears, challenges, and highlights of a pregnancy (or two) in a loving family. This book was charming, funny, and lovely.

My only critique is that the voice of Kat was different from Wilson's version. Connolly's Kat is more sassy and witty, which although I thoroughly enjoyed didn't seem to pull from Kat's previous character development. (Of course though, this story takes place more than a year after Wilson's novel and the character could have gained more confidence.)

This is my favorite story in the The Royals of Monterra kindleworld so far. It seems like it could have been written by Sariah Wilson. The characters have same feel to them.

It is funny caring, snarky and tender as we see Kat go through her pregnancy. She is Queen Kat now. The world is watching her. The King is willing to do anything for her.

I would like to read more books by Rebecca Connolly.
