About the Author
Recently appointed the Prestonian Lecturer, Ric Berman researches, speaks and writes on eighteenth-century history, focusing on the social and political impact of Freemasonry. He is a Visiting Research Fellow at Oxford Brookes University and holds a Doctorate in History from the University of Exeter and a Masters in Economics from the University of Cambridge. Ric's work has been published by Sussex Academic Press and The Old Stables Press.

A concise summary of the much larger body of work undertaken by Dr. Ric Berman for his doctoral thesis, here presented as the 2016 Prestonian Lecture. Outstanding scholarship underscored by a non-sentimental viewpoint regarding the explosive growth of English Freemasonry as a political force in its particular time after the formation of the United Grand Lodge of England in 1717. This book is an excellent companion to hearing Dr. Berman deliver the actual lecture. We were fortunate in Iowa to host him during his American tour. [...] A portion of the proceeds from this book go toward supporting the Library and Museum of Freemasonry in London. [...]
